The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced a nationwide “uprising” dubbed ‘No Salary Uprising’ to demand the withdrawal of a decision to pay monthly salaries to the spouses of the President and the Vice President.

The NDC youth say it is surprising that at a time President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has admonished all Ghanaians to make sacrifices, he gave a clean bill of health to Parliament to approve the report of the Professor Yaa Ntiamoah-Baidu-led committee, which reviewed the emoluments of Article 71 office holders.

“The terms of reference of the Prof Yaa Ntiamoah-Baidu Committee gave out the President as the chief architect of the decision to pay his wife, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and wife of Vice President, Mrs Samira Bawumia,” a press release issued by NDC’s National Youth Organiser George Opare Addo accused.

“For want of a better expression, the decision to further drain the Consolidated Fund with needless expenditure is a pet project of President Akufo-Addo.”

Mr Opare Addo served notice that the party will be heading to the Supreme Court to “declare this cancerous and insensitive act unconstitutional”.

“By this circular, we announce the #NoSalaryUprising across the nation by the young people of this country until this obnoxious development is reversed.”
