The Northern Region branch of the Health Service Workers Union (HSWU) has declared an indefinite strike with immediate effect.

According to leadership of the Union, the decision to embark on strike is as a result of failure on the part of government and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) to better their working conditions.

“Our employers have put us too tight to the wall,” the Northern Region Chairman of the Union, Abraham Amoh Raymond, told journalists at the Regional Health Directorate in Tamale on Monday, October 25.

“We entreat members to stay resolute, fearless, focus and united to fight until all the union demands are met.”

Already, the action by the workers is taking a full toll as hospitals appear abandoned.

The strike is expected to affect services such as records, mortuary, orderly, security, IT, maintenance, estates among several others.
