The Managing Director for Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Engineer Dr Clifford Braimah, has bemoaned the fallen standards of education in the Savannah Region.
Addressing a mammoth gathering of chiefs and people of Buipe at this year’s BUDAFEST, Dr. Braimah called for a stakeholder engagement to remedy the situation.
“Jira Buipewura, I am saddened by the figures of last year’s ranking of our educational system which placed the region 16 out of 16.
“An immediate stakeholder engagement is necessary to remedy the falling standards.”
On the Damongo Water System, the Managing Director revealed that the Company is working on compensation packages for persons whose properties will be affected by the project.
“Physical work like laying of pipelines will soon begin but that will be after we are through with the compensation packages for the people who will be affected.
“However, in the interim, we have identified an ancient well that can supply Damongo township water and we will work on it for this impending dry season to curb the perennial water challenge as we fast-track the main project.”
Dr. Clifford admonished the people of the Region to explore avenues of making economic gains out of the Damba festival.
Savannah Region Minister Saeed Muhazu Jibril, who represented government, applauded the chiefs for leading and embracing the Green Ghana project.
He assured of more development in the Region.
The Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area, Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor, applauded government for the fast take-off of the Savannah Region.
He is hopeful government will support the fight against commercial charcoal burning and logging of all forms which not only deplete our environment but also contribute to climate change.
Ing. Dr Clifford Braimah also received a citation from staff of the Accident and Emergency Hospital at Buipe for his sterling contribution to the hospital.
