An orderly has died of Covid-19 in the Eastern Region.

The non-clinical health worker’s death brings the Region’s death toll to two.

The orderly, 3news.com gathers, had underlying conditions of the liver.

Samples of him were taken as part of routine surveillance of some health workers and he tested positive though asymptomatic.

Orderlies do household cleaning such as disinfecting surfaces, mopping floors, among others. They are also responsible for cleaning up waste spillage, such as vomits, blood , urine and stool.

This makes them become vulnerable in their frontline duties because the body fluids from patients are carriers of viruses including Covid-19.

Following the development in the Region, the confirmed cases as regards health workers stand at 49.

Nine out of the figure have, however, recovered.

Some 619 health workers are contacts of confirmed cases, according to the Eastern Regional Health Directorate.

It confirmed the Region’s case count as at June 10, 2020 at 208 in 16 municipal and district assemblies.

A total of 105 has recovered and 101 remain active cases with two dead.
