Four more die as Ghana’s Covid-19 cases pass 9,000

Four more persons have lost their lives to coronavirus in Ghana, pushing the number of deaths from 38 to 42.

The cumulative case count since Thursday, March 12, when the first two index cases were recorded, is now 9,168.

The number of recoveries has also risen to 3,457 from 3,189 at the last update on Thursday, June 4.

All these were contained in the latest update released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Friday, June 5.

By the recoveries, the active number of cases under management at various treatment facilities is 5,669.

According to the release, three patients are on ventilators in critical conditions while 17 cases are said to be severe.

The four deaths recorded had comorbidities with hypertension almost proven in all. The youngest among the latest to have died is a 46-year-old man in Accra and the oldest is a 71-year-old woman also resident in the Greater Accra Region.

The other two, 52 and 56, died in the Ashanti Region.

The two regions lead the pack in the regional breakdown with the Ashanti Region following the Greater Accra Region in the number of cases recorded so far.

Greater Accra has recorded a total of 6,205 with the Ashanti Region having recorded 4,687 less.

The Western Region has crossed the half-a-thousand mark with 519 cases while its adjoining region to the east, Central Region, has recorded 452 cases.
