Former Ghana international Michael Essien has joined the coaching staff at Nordsjaelland Football Club in Denmark.

Essien is taking his on-field qualities to the touchlines now after acquiring his UEFA License B Certificate and working towards reaching License A.

“Essien has completed his UEFA License B and starts the License A in November,” his team told 3news.com on Wednesday, September 9.

“So, this fits well with that progress.”

Prior to this move to Denmark, the former midfielder had been playing for FC Sabail in Azerbaijan.

The former Chelsea man could be hanging his boots soon but from all indications, life after football is a topmost priority.

“We are trying to move him from playing into coaching/Sporting Director type role and FC Nordsjaelland is a good opportunity with Tom Vernon and the Right to Dream guys.”

With a solid base of Ghanaian players at the Danish club, Essien’s inclusion will help the progression of these boys who have big aspirations including playing for Ghana in a few years to come.

Michael Essien played 58 times for Ghana from 2002 to 2014 and scored nine goals.
