A member of the committee of inquiry set up by the Minister of Interior to probe the Ejura disturbances of Tuesday, June 29 and the circumstances leading to them has expressed shock at the reaction its final report is provoking.
Dr Vladimir Antwi Danso insists that the committee’s task was not to find out who killed Ibrahim Anyars Mohammed, known on Facebook as Macho Kaaka, but to find out what led to the disturbances in the Ashanti Region town.
The final report consisting of findings and recommendations was made public on Monday, September 27.
However, members of the families appear not satisfied with the report.
Spokesperson of the family of Macho Kaaka Nafiu Mohammed has communicated the family’s utmost rejection of the report.
But speaking on News 360 on Tuesday, September 28, Dr Antwi Danso, who is also Dean of Academic Affairs at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, indicated that the committee could not have gone beyond the terms of reference given it by Minister Ambrose Dery.
“We are saying from all that we’ve had. . .the evidence before us shows that it may be a family feud and we put it clearly and we say the rest belongs to the CID. So, who is expecting us to have conclusion on [Macho] Kaaka’s death?” he stated.
“We can’t go beyond our findings,” he told host Alfred Ocansey.
“So, if anybody thought we are going to bring anything beyond our findings, they’ve got it wrong.”
Among the recommendations of the committee captured in the 55-page report is to train officials of the security councils in the Region from the top to the district level at the Ghana Armed Forces and Staff College at least once every year.
But the Director of the Faculty of Academic Affairs & Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, Professor Emmanuel Kwesi Aning, thinks the head of the regional security council (REGSEC), for instance, should have been sanctioned.
