A cross country fraud syndicate operating in various countries using the Ghanaian presidency and the name of the form Libyan leader, Muammar al-Gaddafi, has been busted in Accra. The syndicate made up of Syrians and Yemenis were arrested in the process of collecting the last trunk of a 450,000 dollar being proceeds from fraudulent deal with an expatriate at the Kotoka International Airport. The suspected criminals, identified as Sanousi Khalifa Mohammed and Cousin Amel, claiming to be Libyans, were picked after years of surveillance. They were finally rounded up by the Tesano Police at a restaurant at the Kotoka International Airport while concluding a deal. The suspects had already collected 270, 000 dollars under the pretext of a 450 million-dollar business transaction. They were to present the military trunks of cash declared as crystal and pick the balance on Thursday. Unknown to the suspected fraudsters, the meeting was being monitored by the security operatives and a team from Tiger Eye PI|. Those arrested include Sanousi Khalifa Mohamed, William, who acts as a clearing agent from the presidency, Amel and Khalifa’s cousin, who claimed to be a relative of the former leader of the Libya. They told the victim, they have stash of cash parked in a secured military trunks and needed safe means of transporting them out of Ghana to Yemen. The syndicate claimed custom duties as well as bribes for some top government officials required that they seek honest partners. The gang promised to share the alleged 450 million dollars upon a successful completion of the deal. Private security personnel and residents at Devtraco and Community 18 were excited over their arrest when they led the police to conduct a search in their homes. The suspects had passports of many countries including Niger, Mali, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Chad and Nigeria, and had allegedly defrauded countless victims in Ghana, Togo, Cote d’ Ivoire, Mali and many more around the world.
