An aspiring General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Nanabanyin Onuawonto Bissue, has withdrawn from this weekend’s elections.

The former Western Region Secretary of the party threw in his candidature to unseat incumbent John Boadu.

However, on Wednesday, July 13, a few days to the polls, Mr Bissue says he will no longer contest.

He was Number 4 on the ballot.

His withdrawal brings to five the number of aspirants who have scratched themselves from the race.

Before balloting, National Women’s Organiser aspirant Abena Osei Bonsu, National Organiser aspirant Dr Kwame Afriyie and National Youth Organiser aspirant Klinsmann Karikari Mensah Tuffour announced their withdrawal.

Later, former High Commissioner Joseph Ayikoi Otoo was reported to have withdrawn from the chairmanship race.

“Honourable Ayikoi Otoo who was vying for the national chairmanship position of the party has, however, since withdrawn from the race,” said Peter Mac Manu, the Chair of the NPP’s National Elections Committee.

“So after vetting, he has withdrawn from the race.”
