Teachers of candidates writing the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) have been barred from being at the examination centre. Supervisor at the Ghana Senior High School centre Frederick Kwaku Ofosu says the presence of teachers during examination period encourages interaction, which results in malpractice. Some teachers, who entered the Ghana SHS premises were turned away. A total of 50,888 candidates are expected to write this year’s BECE in the Eastern Region. At the Ghana SHS centre, 313 pupils from 11 public and private schools had begun their exams. Three candidates were absent. At the the Koforidua Senior High and Technical School center, candidates had ended the first paper and were receiving their meals government provided for them. Some candidates were confident of passing the examinations, others said they were a bit tensed. “The paper was okay, it is our first time. We have hope in God that we will complete the paper in a peaceful manner,” a student, Henrietta Akyea Mensah of Presby C Basic School, said. She added: “I was very tensed from the onset but as time went on, I was able to answer all the questions. I also thank the government for the free hot meal.” All covid-19 protocols were adhered to.
