Bawumia wins NPP flagbearer elections in Mahama’s Bole Bamboi

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a commanding lead in results of the presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

With a number of provisional results in, Dr Bawumia is leading Kennedy Ohene Agyapong with Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh far behind the two.

While the Vice President has won in most constituencies, Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Ken Agyapong also won a number of constituencies, particularly in the Central and Greater Accra regions.

But the winner of Saturday’s polls will have his eyes on the 2024 elections to face John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

What has been the results in the Bole Bamboi Constituency, where Mr Mahama served as MP until 2009 when he became Vice President?

Dr Bawumia polled 391 votes out of total valid votes of 587 to win in his arch-rival’s home constituency.

Mr Ohene Agyapong, who was a colleague of Mr Mahama’s in the Third and Fourth Parliaments, came second with 170 votes.

The former Agric Minister, Dr Afriyie Akoto, who served in the Fourth Parliament with Mr Mahama, polled 14 votes while the former Mampong MP had 7 votes.

With majority of results collated, Dr Bawumia is set to be declared winner of the internal elections.

He is set to be outdoored at the Accra Sports Stadium.
