Office of the Speaker of Parliament has dismissed reports that Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin held a meeting with the Parliamentary Service Board (PSB) in Dubai, where he travelled to for a medical review.

“There has not been any meeting of the PSB in Dubai held at the instance and convenience of the Speaker of Parliament.”

There have been media publications suggesting that the Board had met with Mr Bagbin in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier in the month to plan events that have characterised proceedings in Parliament recently.

The rumours linking events were fuelled by membership of the board of National Democratic Congress (NDC) General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

A statement issued by the Office of the Speaker said his travel to Dubai on Saturday, November 27 was planned way after a scheduled international workshop for the board.

“The PSB participated in an international workshop and team building exercise by the Crown Agents in Dubai.

“It is worth noting that arrangement for the workshop predated the Speaker of Parliament’s medical trip to Dubai. It was initially planned for April 2021 and was finally held in September 2021.

“It had been postponed a couple of times due to time constraints and availability of members of the PSB.”

It stressed that the workshop and the Speaker’s trip had nothing in common.

“We entreat all well-meaning Ghanaians to disregard this misleading publication, which only seeks to traduce the Rt.Hon Speaker’s character by negatively projecting him and the Parliamentary Service Board,” the statement signed by Peter Bamfo of the Office concluded.
