The Supreme Court has adjourned hearing of the substantive matter of Member of Parliament for Assin North James Gyakye Quayson.

This was after Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah announced in open court that a member of the panel, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has lost her father.

The Chief Justice intimated that should the situation call for a substitution of a panel member, it will be done.

In the substantive suit, private citizen Ankomah-Nimfah is seeking the Supreme court for “a true and proper interpretation of Article 94(2)(a) of the 1992 Constitution”, indicating that at the time the EC opened nominations for people to file to contest the Assin North parliamentary seat, Mr Quayson was holding dual citizenship.

Mr Ankomah Nimfah also wants the court to declare that the Electoral Commission breached Article 94(2)(a) of the 1992 Constitution when it allowed Mr Quayson to contest.
