Residents of Akyem Aduasa in the Birim South District of the Eastern Region are upset over the poor road network in the area, and have appealed to the government to reshape the Aduasa-Akorti road.
This, according to them, would help facilitate easy movement and as well boost economic activities in the area.
Akyem Aduasa is a farming community in the Birim South District where the farmers are mostly into cocoa farming.
Yet the farmers claim that the dilapidated nature of road networks is adversely affecting the conveyance of cocoa beans and other farm produce from farms and producing communities.
The farmers speaking in an interview with Onua TV were livid at the dusty nature of the roads and expressed fret over likely health implications.
They have challenged the government to as a matter of urgency fix the deplorable roads linking the various cocoa growing communities in the area.
They underscored that farmers in the community and other surrounding villages become extremely shipwrecked when it rains, stressing that the roads become completely inaccessible.
The youth in the community similarly asserted that they had been facing the challenge for years, but nothing had been done about it amidst several complaints.
Even though the road has been awarded to a contractor, the youth are not convinced that the road would be fixed anytime soon due to the lackadaisical attitude of the contractor.
They have censured the Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, who doubles as the Chairperson of select committee in Parliament on Roads and Transport.
They have inveighed against the lawmaker for his negligence and continued disrespect for the community in terms of development.
They have thus threatened to vote against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) come 2024 if the road is not fixed.
They have equally beckoned on Kennedy Nyarko Osei not to contest the parliamentary seat in the 2024 polls else he would be hooted at.
