The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) says it would review security arrangements to enable it enforce  protocols after President Akufo-Addo announced a week extension of the partial lockdown in Accra and Greater Kumasi.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah who is chairman of the REGSEC, has directed the suspension of all special market days in the region as part of measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus.

The extension of the lockdown period was expected by many Ghanaians after Coronavirus cases increased following enhanced contact tracing efforts.

Check points have been mounted and security patrols intensified to enforce lockdown directives in affected areas within Greater Kumasi.

Simon Osei Mensah tells 3news.com the security council will ensure the directives are enforced.

The regional minister made the disclosure after taking delivery of some items from Nana K. Gyasi Company Limited to be distributed to health facilities to help in the fight against the pandemic.

The company presented seven boxes of surgical nose masks, 180 pieces of Veronica buckets, ten packets of temperature gun, 1000 pieces of hand gloves and three cartons of carbolic soap.

Other items include; two packets of sun light liquid soap, 30 pieces of flora tissue, three cartons of morning fresh liquid soap and four pieces of Papa Jumbo tissue.

The items were worth GHc 70,000.

Chief Executive of the Company, Nana Kwasi Gyasi commended frontline health workers for their sacrifices.

He entreated well-to-do people in the country to support the country in the fight against COVID-19 since there’s more blessing in giving.

The items were later presented to the Ashanti regional health directorate for onward distribution to some health facilities.

Whilst commending the businessman for his gesture, the regional minister also called on other individuals and institutions to also support the fight.
