UTAG challenges NLC’s claim
The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) says “it is not correct” a statement by the National Labour Commission (NLC) that there was no official communication over their intended strike.
National Secretary Dr Asare Asante-Annor told Roland Walker on TV3‘s News 360 that they wrote to NLC as far back as December, 2021 via email and mail.
Meanwhile, the meeting with NLC and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has been rescheduled to Thursday, January 13.
NLC summons UTAG et al over strike
The National Labour Commission (NLC) has summoned the leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) and other stakeholders to a meeting on Wednesday, January 12 to resolve the impasse that has led to the lecturers’ strike action.
The meeting is scheduled for 2:30pm.
“The parties are urged to take note of the time and date and appear as scheduled,” the Commission said in a statement on Monday.
Black Stars lose AFCON opener
The Black Stars succumbed to a Soufiane Boufal strike deep in the second half in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Morocco on Monday, January 10.
They next play Gabon on Friday.

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has expressed surprise Ghana’s lawmakers left behind their debating skills to engage in fisticuffs in ending the year in 2021.
He says that calls for introspection as the peace in the country cannot be taken for granted due to that event.

AFCON 2021: We’ll die till the end – Ayew
Black Stars Captain Andre Dede Ayew has assured the nation that every player who wears the national team jersey at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will sweat to the last drop.
“Whatever happens, we will die till the end,” he said at the pre-match press conference. “We will die on the pitch.”
Akufo-Addo, Bawumia, Mahama et al wish Black Stars well
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has wished the Black Stars well ahead of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations clash with the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
In a video clip, President Akufo-Addo reiterated that the target for the team is to bring home the trophy to end the 40-year drought.
Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in a tweet, assured of the nation’s support as the campaign for a fifth African title begins.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, also in a tweet, wished the team well not only in Monday’s encounter but also in subsequent matches.
The US Embassy in Accra has also wished the team well with a picture of the Ambassador Stephanie S. Sullivan in the trademark Black Stars strip.
