Minister of Employment and Labour Relations Haruna Iddrisu has warned public sector workers currently on strike that they face forfeiture of their remunerations if they don't resume work.
According to the Employment Minister, the Ministry of Finance is expected to take action on lists of striking workers from ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) after Friday, August 14.
A statement issued by Mr Iddrisu on Tuesday said government has given directive to all heads of government institutions “where workers have embarked on illegal (partial or full) strike actions to compile and submit to their respective Ministers of State the list of workers who have been absenting themselves from work as a result of a strike or protest”.
This is in accordance with Labour Act 2003 (Act 651), stated the Employment Minister.
“Government is once again appealing to public sector workers presently on strike to call off their action and return to work while negotiations continue in good faith.”
Among public sector workers on strike are doctors, who make up the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), pharmacists, who make up Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA) and lecturers, University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).
