Wa Polytechnic labour unions suspend strike

Leadership of the three local unions at the Wa Polytechnic have called off their intended strike on Monday morning, March 26,  following a dialogue between the governing council and some eminent people in Wa. The unions namely, the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG), the Polytechnic Administration Association of Ghana (PAAG) and the Polytechnic Workers Association of Ghana (POWAG) petitioned the council on Thursday, March 22, to suspend the induction of the Rector, Professor Emanuel Owusu Marfo over some allegations of corruption leveled against him.They also called for his immediate removal from office. Read:Wa Polytechnic staff demand removal of Rector The council defied the call of the unions and inducted Professor Emanuel Owusu Marfo as the Rector of Wa polytechnic, a situation that angered the unions to threaten a sit-down strike scheduled to have started today March 26. However, as at Monday morning when TV3 Upper West Regional correspondent Yakubu Abdul-Gafur visited the school to find out the stands of the Labour Unions on the subject matter. Activities were normal and lectures were ongoing, he reported.
