Mahama applauds Finance Minister and BoG Governor for driving economic recovery

President John Dramani Mahama.

President John Dramani Mahama has commended the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, for what he described as “close collaboration and coordination” in steering Ghana’s economy toward recovery.

Speaking during a durbar at the Wa Jubilee Park on Thursday, May 15, as part of his thank-you tour in the Upper West Region, President Mahama applauded both institutions for their synchronized efforts, which he credited as a major force behind recent signs of economic stabilization.

I wish to commend the Honourable Minister of Finance, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and their teams for the close collaboration and coordination they are demonstrating in this economic turnaround,” Mahama stated.

The President expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic trajectory, citing the strengthening cedi and a gradual decline in the cost of living as clear indicators of progress.

He emphasized that these improvements are a result of tough policy choices and fiscal discipline implemented early in his new administration.

Since taking over the reins of government, our focus has been on stabilising the economy. We therefore presented to Parliament in March this year a budget aimed at severely trimming expenditure and channelling the saved revenue into priority programmes, as promised in our manifesto,” he noted.

I’m happy to report that our efforts to stabilise the economy have begun to yield results. This is evident in the improved performance of our local currency and the gradual reduction in prices of goods and services in the market.

Looking ahead, President Mahama said Ghanaians can expect even more positive developments, adding, “I am confident that by the time the Honourable Minister returns to Parliament to present his mid-year budget review in August, we will have even more good news for Ghanaians.”
