Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo, the lawyer of beleaguered High Court judge Paul Uuter Dery, has initiated a legal suit at an Accra High Court against EIB Group, owners of Starr FM, the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council as well as the Chairperson and the Secretary of the Committee.

According to lawyer Addo, the four defendants have in one way or the other caused the publication of a notice of invitation to him and eight other lawyers by the Council on the news portal of Starr FM.

He stated in his writ to the Court that “due to the publication and the republication of the said notice, he has suffered great distress, embarrassment and damage to his reputation as a lawyer”.

He said the Committee was well in the know about his defamation case against one Nii Adjei Brown over a petition filed against him but went ahead to invite him for hearing on the same issue.

He said the publication rather sought to suggest that he deliberately declined an invitation to appear before the Committee.

Justice Dery’s lawyer is therefore seeking seven reliefs including general damages of GH¢500,000 each for defamatory contents of the notice published and republished by the defendants.

He also wants the Court to put a perpetual injunction on any publication on him.
