The Electoral Commission, Ghana has announced Sunday, December 2, 2018 as the commencement date for the transfer of votes and proxy votes ahead of the December 27 referendum, which will decide the creation of six new regions.
The exercise, according to the Commission, will end on Thursday, December 6.
Addressing journalists Friday, November 30, the Deputy EC Chair in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey, indicated that applications for transfer of votes and proxy votes will be done in only the earmarked areas of the referendum.
The Commission is therefore urging prospective voters to take note of the dates and participate fully in all the upcoming process.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Regional Reorganisation and Development, Dan Kweku Botwe, has disclosed a budgetary allocation of GH¢120 million by government for the new regions.
He said GH¢20 million each has been budgeted for the regions and that no part of the money will be used by government for the campaign.
However, some campaigns are already ongoing in some of the affected areas ahead of the plebiscite.
