The Accra Circuit court has ordered State Attorneys prosecuting the Democracy Hub protesters to carry out a psychological evaluation of one Thomas Yeboah.
In court on Monday, October 14, lawyers of the protesters indicated to the court that despite being granted bail, Thomas Yeboah remained in Police custody.
They explained that there was a difficulty to obtain surety for the protester because he was incoherent. According to the defence counsel, the prosecutor’s attention was drawn to the plight of the young man whom they described as mentally unstable.
The prosecution, led by Nana Akosua Kusi prayed the court for an adjournment to complete filing of disclosures and witness statements. Responding to the mental health challenges of Thomas Yeboah, the prosecution asserted that they had only been notified before proceedings on Monday.
But dissatisfied with their statements, presiding judge Kobina Obiri Yeboah chided the prosecution urging them to carry out their mandate and not persecute the accused person.
He therefore directed the State Attorneys to mentally assess Thomas Yeboah so his status will be determined.
The case has been adjourned to October 24.

After spending 22 days in Police custody due to denial of his bail applications on three occasions, Oliver Barker Vormawor was escorted back to court.
Flanked by some of the protesters on bail, they chanted for his release after venting their spleen about what they described as the injustice being meted out to the leading member of Democracy Hub.
Another protester, Fanny Otoo who made his first appearance after spending weeks on admission in the hospital pleaded not guilty after 6 charges were read to him.
