The Ghana Union of Traders’ Association (GUTA) has expressed gratitude to government for including traders in the affordable housing scheme.

At the sod-cutting ceremony of an 8,000-unit affordable housing project at Pokuase on Tuesday, August 1, the Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye, assured that the beneficiaries of the project will include traders.

It will be for low- and middle-income earners in Ghana, the Minister promised.

In a press release on Wednesday, August 9, GUTA stated: “Given the serious housing deficit in the country, traders deem this scheme a golden opportunity.

“The idea, therefore, is in the right direction because shelter is one of the three main basic human needs.”

Already, estate developers and banks have expressed interest to help traders purchase some of the units.

GUTA extended appreciation to these banks and estate developers.

The Association, however, appealed to government to extend the project to other regions of the country to “enable traders out there to also benefit from this laudable scheme”.
