The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is set to introduce a tax stamp on textiles in the country.
The move, according to the GRA, will help reduce the importation of fake textiles into the country and also generate revenue for the state.
The Commissioner in Charge of Domestic Tax at the GRA, Edward Gyambrah, made the revelations in an interview on Onua TV.
“It will start on October 1, 2023, but we will have some kind of transition provision for players in the industry.”
Mr Gyambrah said “for the first three months, we will allow you to start complying, but come January 2024, we will start full enforcement of the law at the entry points”.
Mr. Gyambrah said “manufacturers of affected programmes must comply with the requirements”.
“We want full enforcement at the entry points. If you bring in any product that has not been stamped, then of course, the law will deal with you”.
