Mr Bagbin is the current longest-serving MP [/caption] Even before the National Democratic Congress (NDC) opens nominations for the top most position of leader of the party, members have started identifying with their preferred choice of candidate. Joining the ‘endorsement wagon’ is a former Central Region Minister, Thomas Aquinas Quansah. For the former Mfantsiman West legislator, John Dramani Mahama will always be his preferred candidate for the 2020 comeback of the NDC as against the rest of the names that are making rounds but was quick to add that should the immediate past President decide not to contest, “I believe the party’s best bet is Alban Sumana Bagbin and I will go for him”. According to him, the Second Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament stands tall among the likes of former boss of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah, and former Vice-Chancellor of University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof Joshua Alabi. He also served in government and this is aside his vast experience as a legislator, so he, judging from these, I think, possesses the quality of a leader.” Although Thomas Aquinas Quansah said he has not really followed the exploits of other names that are making rounds, he knows for a fact that beside John Dramani Mahama, the next person who can deliver the goods for the party and country at large is Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, he told Bright Kwesi Asempa, the host of Onua FM morning show Yen Nsem Pa. ‘Bagbin is better than Mahama’ Meanwhile, former New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Asene/Akroso/Manso in the Eastern Region Yaw Owusu Boateng has downplayed the candidature of John Dramani Mahama, saying Alban Bagbin will be a better choice for the NDC than the former President John Mahama. According to him, the Second Deputy Speaker’s prowess of managing Parliament coupled with his long stay in the august House will make him a better leader than the ex-President. “Bagbin is better than Mahama because Mahama was not a good leader. Corruption was rampant under him, things were so bad that even after his exit, we are still hearing cases of corruption. One can talk about SUBA, GIDA, etc. So, I believe that Alban Bagbin will be better than John Mahama,” Yaw Owusu Boateng stressed. By Bright Dzakah|Onua 95.1FM|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
