Zanetor’s application dismissed

An Accra High Court on Monday, February 22 dismissed an application brought before it by Dr Zanetor Rawlings for a suit against her parliamentary candidature to be thrown out.

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle Constituency, Nii Armah Ashietey, filed the suit to pray the Court to declare the daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings unfit to represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 elections.

But during hearing presided over by Justice Kweku Ackaah-Boafo, Dr Zanetor’s suit filed on her behalf by her lawyers was said to be “ill-motivated”.

Justice Ackaah-Boafo also said the motion of Nii Armah’s suit that Dr Zanetor is said to be qualified to run for parliament even though her name is not in the country’s voters’ register requires investigation.

Dr Zanetor beat Nii Armah Ashietey and Nii John Alfonso Coleman in NDC’s parliamentary primaries on November 21 and an attempt to question her eligibility was shot down by an Accra court, which asked aggrieved constituency members to exhaust all internal structures of resolution before coming before it.
