Race for the apex positions of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is getting keener as CEO of Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Justin Kodua Frimpong has declared his intention to contest for the General Secretary ahead of the party’s conference in July.
Lawyer Kodua, who describes his decision to contest the national executive position as a ‘calling’, says he will serve the party with his resources with the grassroots as his main priority.
The YEA boss disclosed his appetite for the NPP General Secretary position during a mini get-together with a section of his constituents at Asokwa Sunday, February 13.
When asked whether he is facing a keen contest, Mr Kodua explained that “we have weighed all options and I think I will come out stronger, I have heard the grassroots’ voice and I believe this is the right time to serve them”.
Earlier, there were speculations of his intentions for the national position but Sunday’s declaration clears all doubts and spinnings for political points.
While speaking at the get-together, Mr Kodua appealed for massive support from the grassroots, delegates and the media to successfully cling victory in the upcoming national conference.
Also known as JFK, the YEA CEO happens to be the only contender from the NPP’s stronghold Ashanti Region to run for the General Secretary position.
Other suitors who will be competing for the position are the incumbent, John Boadu.
