WIT discusses tourism, business opportunities with Czech & Colombia ambassadors

The President of Women In Tourism (WIT), Ghana, Ambassador Nancy Sam has paid courtesy calls on the ambassadors of Czech Republic and Colombia to discuss opportunities for mutual cooperation in business and tourism between Ghana and their respective countries.

Accompanied by some executive members of WIT to the Embassy of the Czech Republic, the president noted the need to exchange ideas through mutual travel and trade by women and other professionals in Ghana to Czech Republic and vice versa.

She said there was a lot that Ghanaian professionals could learn from the Czech Republic counterparts to improve the business of tourism and trade in Ghana and West Africa and her organization would like to take advantage of such opportunities to learn.

The WIT president also extoled the advancement made in the tourism sector of Ghana under the leadership of the Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture, Hon. Catherine Afeku and her Support to WIT as the Chairperson. She commended her especially in regards to the improvement of sanitation along the coastline from Axim to Aflao.
On her part, Her Excellency Ambassador Gita Fuchsova commended the Women in Tourism for their effort to improve the business of tourism and trade in Ghana. She noted that her country was willing to partner with relevant state and private organizations to improve trade and tourism in Ghana and therefore was glad WIT had stepped forward.

Ambassador Fuchsova announced that there would be an exchange programme between women from the Czech Republic and WIT which would see women from her country arriving in Ghana in the third week in January.

The president of WIT explained that they were working with the Ghana Tourism Authority to do a familiarization tour for the visitors from the Czech Republic “to have a feel of our tourism attractions and business sector in Ghana”. She commended the CEO Mr. Akwasi Agyeman for the support and partnership with WIT to do this and other such initiatives.

The two parties have since agreed that member of WIT would embark on a reciprocal visit to The Czech Republic, ending of May 2019 for an exchange program to interact with them, announce to them The Year of Return and seal the relationship developed in Ghana.

In another development, a delegation of the Executive of the Women in Tourism, Ghana paid a visit to the Embassy of Colombia in Accra to discuss issues of mutual interest in travel and trade between Ghana and Colombia.

Ambassador Nancy Sam commended Her Excellency Ambassador Claudia Turbay Quintero for her efforts as one of the patrons for WIT, giving her support to tourism in Ghana and for making time to attend most tourism fora and events she was invited to.

She said Women in Tourism would like to work with the Embassy of Colombia to help train Ghanaian travel agency personnel and trade, to help sell Colombia as a destination, promote Colombia and Ghana to ensure that Ghanaians and West Africans would know more about the tourism potential of the country and to embark on exchange programmes between the two countries.

Ambassador Quintero on her part noted that she was willing to work with the requisite state agencies and private sector organizations to empower actors in the travel and tourism industry to build capacity to deliver on their mandate.

She also commended Ghana for embarking on The Year of Return in 2019 and asked to be briefed on the programmes and events to ensure that it is promoted in Colombia and other South American countries as some of the people there would like to attend.
The Ambassador also underscored the need to continue to work together with the industry to improve the business of tourism in the market.

The leadership of the Women in Tourism Ghana also paid a visit to the Consultant on Sanitation to the Ministry of Tourism, Okatakyie Nana Anim at his office at the Accra Tourism Information Centre to discuss how the organization could do its best to help the ministry achieve its objectives in that area.

The delegation also called on the Acting Group CEO of Media General, Madam Beatrice Agyeman at Adesa We (TV3) to discuss partnership in promoting and selling Ghana and also invite her to join WIT.

Women in Tourism is an association of women and at the top echelons of tourism and trade related businesses who came together to promote tourism and trade in Ghana and beyond
