We’ll sacrifice our blood against a ‘No vote’ for Oti Region – MP warns

December 26, 2018
The MP, Michael Gyato

Member of Parliament for Krachi East Michael Gyato is warning non indigenes of the proposed Oti Region to refrain from patronizing the enclave as residents get ready to vote for the creation new region on Thursday.

Speaking to TV3 in Dambai Wednesday, the MP who is leading a YES campaign says indigenes will resist any attempt by foreigners to vote in the referendum, even if it will cost them their blood.

“Whoever is within the enclave and then he thinks that he wants to go for a No [vote] we have no objection but whoever is coming from outside the enclave and he thinks he wants to come for a No [vote], we have a problem with that and that one we will resist it with all our blood,” he vowed.

He said the residents of the proposed region have asked their men to be on the lookout for outsiders who have no locus whatsoever but wanting to campaign against a Yes vote in the referendum.

Campaigners were in their last lap of campaign marathon  in the proposed region Wednesday, urging residents to come out to vote massively for the region to be created.

Mr. Gyato said the referendum which started Monday with special voting, will be done in a peaceful manner and ” we expect our brothers and sisters to come out and then vote massively for the Yes”

He said they do not “expect to see any No [vote]” claiming a recently held health walk to rally residents for the new region clearly demonstrated that the “the people are prepared for Yes [vote]”.

“You’ve been here and you’ve seen the environment… Whoever is here whether he is coming from the south or the north; they are all prepared to go for a Yes [vote] because they think that a Yes is going to bring development to them and so we don’t anticipate to see any No but all in all,” he noted,

“Whoever comes and says that he is coming for a No vote and he is not coming from the enclave, per the decision of the Supreme Court, we will resist it with all our blood,” he warned.

The MP has consequently asked  residents in the southern part of the Volta Region “not to come [to the Oti enclave] and not to venture into any campaign because they have no locus within the enclave”.
