Ghanaian hip-hop artiste Kelvin Agyekum, known in the music circles as Kurl Songx, has taken a swipe at critics on the importance of TikTok in the music industry, saying that the social media platform is a good promotional tool.

TikTok influencer Asantewaa, a fortnight ago, highlighted the mileage the social media platform is giving to the Ghanaian music industry. Her narrative has divided music lovers as to whether her assessment is right or wrong.

However, in an exclusive interview with Tony Best on Akoma FM‘s flagship Entertainment 360 on Saturday, the ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ hitmaker indicated that much as the traditional media has been tremendous in pushing Ghanaian music, new media, specifically TikTok, is also playing its role in the sustainability of the industry.

“I accept wholeheartedly that the traditional media, Television, Radio, are the core of promoting music everywhere including Ghana but we cannot lose sight of the fact that TikTok is the new trend and it is also having its impact.

“People should not be chastised when they opine that TikTok is having a positive reflection on the Ghanaian music.

“I believe that it is a good promotional tool which should be encouraged. Let’s all learn to infuse new things and live with it.”

Kurl Songx is currently touring parts of the country promoting his new single titled ‘Wow’.
