Speaking to TV 3’s Daniel Lartey, Jean Mensa, Executive Director of the Institute, revealed that the Debate will come off just one week after the first of two scheduled presidential debates.
The debates are aimed at promoting an issues-based campaign as well as ‘creating a room for accountability.’
The first of the presidential debates to precede the Vice Presidential Debate will take place in Tamale on October 30 while the second, which will focus on gender-based issues, takes place in Accra on November 20, 2012, just over two weeks before the general elections.
“This is what happens in the advanced democracies,” explained Ms Mensa.
“The debates are held close to election so that electorates can assess the presidential candidates,” she stated.
The sitting arrangements at each debate will be as follows: National Democratic Congress, Convention People’s Party, People’s National Convention and New Patriotic Party.
