After weeks of back and forth as to who deserves to be crowned ‘Artiste of the Decade’, rapper Sarkodie has been honoured with the title at the 20th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
The Artiste of the Decade title is for the artiste who has been consistent with churning out music and making waves in the past ten years.
King Sark stands tall when it comes to consistency and putting Ghana on the map for the past decade.
Since his music journey officially took off in 2009 with his debut album,’Makye’, the rapper has known no stop.
He has released hits upon hits and has several awards to his credit including the BET Best International Act 2014 and many others.
The rapper beat competition from Samini, Joe Mettle, Shatta Wale, Becca, R2Bees, Efya, No Tribe, Nacee, Stonebwoy and Okyeame Kwame to emerge winner.
This year’s VGMAs did not see the crowning of an Artiste of the Year following an altercation that occurred.
Organizers, Charterhouse say the Artiste of the Year and Song of the Year awards will be given at a later date where issues regarding the altercation will be addressed.
However, over 20 artistes were rewarded on the night for their good works during the year under review.
