They include the Economic committee, Election Committee, Communications Committee and Social Services committee.
Key names including Vice President Amissah Arthur, Togbui Afede the 16th, Seth Tekpeh, Yaw Boateng Gyan amongst others have been give various positions to help in the daily affairs of the party.
Most members of the various committees are drawn from parliament.
The most prominent amongst the committees is the Economics committee which will be chaired by Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur. Other members of this committee include Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah and the Agbogbomefia, Togbe Afede XIV.
For the communications committee its members include Trades Minister Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah, Communications Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Agric Minister, Fiifi Kwetey and former National Security Minister under the Rawlings era, Kofi Totobi Kwakye.
The names making up the Social Services Committee are Former Education Minister, Lee Ocran Transport Minister Dzifa Attivor, Health Minister designate, Alex Segbefia and Gender and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur.
Two rival competitors at the party’s last congress, Yaw Boateng Gyan and National Organiser, Kofi Adams have been paired with Rachel Appoh amongst others to form the Elections Committee.
General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia told the media that leadership of the party would be strict in ensuring that members attend meetings regularly.
He added that any member who absents him or herself three consecutive times would be removed from the committee.
He further added that for the first time, the party has given responsibilities to Members of Parliament who are serving on the various committees to play active roles in convening their meetings.
Asked about the names of some old names popping up in some of the committees, the NDC General Secretary explained that “as a member of the party, you are resource that is available for use within the party so the party takes a decision to use you one way or the other so in the past, if you were being used a general secretary and now you are no longer a general secretary, it doesn’t make you less of a party member – you are given another assignment.”
“Even when you take our constitution, you will see that there are certain roles that are assigned to people with that type of experience.”
Asked whether Togbe Afede and some others whose names are on the list are NDC members, Asiedu Nketia said: “Some of the members of the committee are sympathizers of the party and they have agreed to support us. You will realize that some of these brains are on the economic committee so we invite them because of their expertise.”
