UPDATE (Akyem Akooko violence): 4 picked up by police

Four persons have been arrested by the police over Tuesday morning’s communal violence, which claimed one life at Akyem Akooko in the Eastern Region.

Several others who sustained injuries were sent to the hospital for treatment.

Residents reportedly embarked on a demonstration to register their displeasure against the activitiesof a fetish priest in the town.

The protestors went to the shrine of the fetish priest and burnt it down, a move which  infuriated followers of the fetish priest who reportedly fired gunshots into the crowd killing one and injuring five others.

The townsfolk allegedly set the house and vehicle of the fetish priest ablaze.

A joint team of police and military personnel have been deployed to the town to maintain law and order.
