Social media on Sunday went agog with information about the arrest of the NDC Central Regional Chairman at Heathrow Airport. The messages circulating mainly on WhatsApp indicated that Allotey Jacobs was caught carrying about 500,000 pounds.
But the UK High Commissioner has responded to the allegations, stating emphatically that “the reports are untrue.”
The outspoken diplomat spent hours on social media trying to justify his position and explain the issue to curious Ghanaians.
“This is tiresome. He was NOT ‘picked up’ by any UK authorities. That claim is NOT true. Clear now?,” apparently frustrated, Jon Benjamin replied someone on twitter.
“There was no arrest,” he told another person, stressing “no, the story is NOT true. Mr Allotey Jacobs transited Heathrow this morning without incident. RT!”
Sounding disappointed about the rumour, the UK High Commissioner told his followers on twitter, “Whoever started the false rumour about the supposed arrest of a Ghanaian party official at Heathrow today – thanks for messing up my Sunday!”
