Head of Public Law Department at GIMPA Edmund Foley has stated that the persistent demand by many for discipline and justice in society puts a peculiar task on the legal fraternity to exhibit professionalism, making it imperative for his department to grow their partnership with University of Cape Coast’s to train more responsible lawyers.

Speaking at the UCC Law 2018 Roll Call Ceremony, at which Senior High Schools graduates were for the first time inducted into the Faculty of Law, Mr. Foley said the two institutions look forward to exploring uncharted areas of the law as an instrument to establish justice.

The ceremony saw the induction of some 37 SHS leavers and 64 graduate students into the Faculty for a four- and three-year Bachelor of Law (LLB) programme respectively.

Mr Foley explained: “Many look to judges and lawyers to right the wrongs and set the nation once more on the path of true freedom and justice….Those who are tasked with the responsibility to form these minds equally bear a great charge.

“Accordingly, GIMPA joins hands with the University of Cape Coast and looks forward to training and growing its partnership between the law faculties that we both have to achieve the end of this noble task of training lawyers,” he stated.

The Provost of the Faculty, Professor Dora F. Edu-Buandoh, welcomed the students and advised them to take pride in everything they do.

“If you take pride in something, you will hold that thing dear to your heart and so you will always ensure that, that thing succeeds or develops, so take pride in the blazer you are wearing.”

Dean of the Faculty Kujo McDave admonished that acquiring a law degree requires sustained and purposeful efforts, urging the freshmen to take keen interest in their studies in order to stand out.

“To our new students, to be successful, you must make use of the facilities, the tutors and the academic apparatus available,” he said.

Mr. McDave also challenged the freshers to endeavour to be punctual and regular in all university activities while undertaking personal readings and research to contribute to knowledge towards solving challenges facing society.

A High Court Justice, Justice Olivia Owusu, led the students in pledging and administering the oath.
