Ten to face off in Connect FM’s Street Rap Battle finale

The King will be crowned on Saturday, September 1

Thirteen rappers made it to the eviction stage of the maiden edition of Connect FM’s Street Rap Battle but the number has been pruned down to 10 for the grand finale on Saturday, September 1.

The thirteen proved ‘dopest’ out of over 70 participants from five zones in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.

It all began at Effiakuma on Saturday, June 23 and, week-in-week-out made stops at Kwesiminstim, Sekondi, and Takoradi for the first round.

Judges Skinny MC and Vybes selected the Top Three from each community and one more from Takoradi for his excellent performance for the eviction stage.

The heat turned up on Friday, August 3 when the selected rappers – NeffGee, Yaw King and Cubes from Effiakuma, Osagyefo D’Maker, Cattarh & Crown Buka from Kwesimintsim and Sekondi-produced Chichiz, Kwaku Bany and the only female contestant Thelma Marley – battled for the next round.

Takoradi-based Kobby K, Kobina Yaro, King Zuba, and Lyrikal also joined in that battle.

The eviction stage had three parts.

The FREE-YOUR-STYLE round saw the rappers take turns to show their prowess on random beats.

The second round dubbed ‘CREATIVITY’ had the rappers perform rap lines on subjects they had been given on a preferred instrumental.

It was fired up in the third round as the rappers were paired to battle one-on-one.

On the night, regular Judges Skinny MC and Vybez were joined by Takoradi-based Music star Nero X.

They had the herculean task of pruning the number down to 10 for the grand finale.

The show received performances from Ewuraba Esi, Kiaani, Starbwoy, Mizzdkal, Bobo Dadabee and Squarty.

The judges decided on KING ZUBA, KOBBY K, NEFFGEE, YAW KING, CUBES, OSAGYEFO D’MAKER, CROWN BUKA, CHICHIZ, KWAKU BANY, LYRIKAL for the grand finale.

Winners of the competition will have a year-long recording deal and other amazing prizes from our headline sponsor Soloku Bitters of Kasapreko, mobile phones and other souvenirs.
