Acting Director of Information Services Department Charles Wereko[/caption] The Information Service Department (ISD) has hinted on a decision to use social media as a key channel to disseminate information and to propagate government’s flagship programmes and policies. It has resolved to carry out this exercise through the use of info-graphs and animation in reaching out to the masses in addition to using the traditional methods. Acting Director of ISD Charles Wereko revealed this on Wednesday, September 18 while speaking at the launch of Citizens Education and Awareness Raising Campaign on the upcoming District Level Elections and Referendum. He has said the rife use of social media in the country has compelled them to be dynamic and transformational in delivering their services. As part of this transformational agenda, he said ISD has built a special unit solely in charge of social media to effectively manage the emerging use of social media platforms to resonate information specifically about government policies to the public. And this, according to him, begins with the education and campaign on the upcoming District Level Elections and Referendum. Mr. Wereko was optimistic that the use of Social Media in this campaign would help them to reach out to the masses as far as the election of district assembly members and committees are concerned. Going forward, he said, a special unit would be established to use solely social media to make government policies and programmes known to the general public. By Maxwell Otoo|3news.com|Ghana]]>
