Taviefe SHS student dies in attempt to jump out of overspeeding taxi

A 19-year-old Form 3 student of Taviefe Senior High School in the Volta Region met her untimely death Tuesday afternoon in an attempt to jump out of an unregistered taxi cab, which was said to be on top speed.

The deceased student, whose name has been given as Mercy, was said to be travelling from Ho to Klefe, her hometown, to collect her school fees, when the accident occurred.

According to some passengers who were aboard, the driver was overspeeding much to protests from them.

As attempts to calm the driver down yielded no results, Mercy, according to Ablabo Amevor, one of the passengers on board, tried jumping out of the taxi but she was restrained.

Ablabo Amevor told TV3’s Robert Abilba that Mercy, however, succeeded in jumping out in her second attempt while the cab was negotiating a sharp curve between OLA Girls SHS and Klefe Junction, crashing her head to the ground.

She died instantly.

Her body has since been sent to the Volta Regional Hospital morgue while the police investigate the matter.
