Tarkwa: Gella Foundation to raise $100,000 to get ventilator, patient monitors etc for Municipal Hospital

Gella Foundation, a registered community-based charity organisation on Friday, May 1, launched a $100,000 fundraiser to cater for food aid for about 1,550 disabled children and their families in Tarkwa, three months’ supply of insulin for 200 diabetic people, one ventilator, five patient monitors for the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital and personal protective equipment (PPEs) for CHPS compounds within the Tarkwa Nsuem Municipality.

As part of activities marking the launch, the Foundation donated relief items worth GH¢10,000 to the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital.

The items included 120 pieces of 2-litre gallons of liquid soap, and 60 pieces of –litre gallons of sanitizers, 1,000 locally manufactured nose masks, 30 rolls of jumbo tissue papers and 20 boxes of bottled mineral water.

In an interview, the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Gella Foundation, Gloria Williston, indicated that after contacting the Municipal Hospital and the Social Welfare Department, “it came to the Foundation’s attention that to be well equipped for this fight against Covid-19, the vulnerable which are the disabled are usually left behind in socioeconomic decisions and therefore they need our attention at a time like this”.

“Also, some hospital equipment and personal protection equipment (PPEs) need to be made available to our heroes in this battle, even though the government has promised, and is working on bringing them PPEs; hence, the Foundation’s decision to raise funds to support the community and the Hospital.”

Medical Superintendent for the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital Dr. Frederick Sarpong expressed profound gratitude to the Foundation for the immense effort to raise a 100,000 to purchase such valuable items to support the community and the Hospital.

Gella Foundation’s aim is to promote quality accessible inclusive education through a bottom-up approach to the Inclusive Education Policy.

This is done using the social and human right models of disability; and by liaising and collaborating with the various community stakeholders like the Social Welfare Department, the various community affairs offices of companies, the Municipal GES office and organisations for the disabled for trainings and programmes, which will bring them and the community better understanding of social inclusion acceptance to promote the agenda of accessible quality education.
