An emergency meeting held on Wednesday, December 11 involving staff and management of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to persuade the workers to rescind the impending strike ended inconclusive.
This was because, according to the workers, management failed to give them any hope that government has made an attempt to resolve the issue and that to them means government “disrespects” them.
They were expected today, December 12, 2019, to determine the way forward.
Management of GRIDCo summoned the staff to an emergency meeting over the sit down strike which begun on Wednesday.
The staff on Tuesday announced an indefinite strike to push government and other institutions to pay their debt to the power transmission company which is running into 1.2 billion cedis.
They vowed not to attend to emergency situations that may arise during the period of the strike.
Speaking in an interview on Thursday, the GRIDCo Divisional Union Chairman, Francis Kwabena Adjatey, told Onua FM Yen Sempa host Bright Kwasi Asempa that “we did not conclude on the meeting yesterday. We met the HR but we could not conclude so we shall continue the meeting today [Thursday].
“The meeting appealed for withdrawal of strike”, the chairman explained.
He said during the meeting they inquired from management whether the government has contacted them over the strike but management told them they were yet to hear from the government “and that does not show respect to us and we are surprised.”
