Stop the blame game and solve the energy crisis – Minority

The Minority New Patriotic Party in Parliament says the party under President John Agyekum Kufuor added 1,451.5 megawatts of power to the national grid contrary to claims by the incumbent that they did not add a single megawatt to the grid.

The opposition says the incumbent can step aside if it cannot fix the country’s energy problems. Addressing a news conference in Parliament, a Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy and MP for Adansi-Asokwa, K.T.Hammond, asked government to stop the blame game and face the problem head-on just as the NPP did in their time.

“In August 2012, the current NDC government took the extraordinary decision to plunge this country into pitch and abysmal darkness in the midst of a substantial installed power generating capacity. The situation persists today as we speak.

“They had no reason to do that. But shamelessly there has been no end to the number of excuses which they had said they would never have that this government has given for creating such a cataclysmic condition in this country”.

“By far, the most nauseating reason given by the NDC government for their abysmal showing in the power sector is their constant reference that the power crisis is all the fault of the NPP government six clear years after the NPP left power”.

“Instead of giving the problem their best shot and look for drastic and immediate solution, the NDC by their grasshoppers courtesy of Koku Anyidoho and the babies with very sharp teeth, and those who refuse to play according to their level, have constantly misinformed the good people of Ghana that the NPP Government of John Agyekum Kufuor did not add a single megawatt of power to the nation’s installed capacity”.

“We intend to explode this fraud that has been perpetuated by this hapless government and to set the record straight. The installed capacity during our time is about 1,451.5 megawatts. We tackled the problem and we solved it.

“The NDC should bow down their heads in collective shame for the untold hardship they have visited on Ghanaians. Roll up your sleeves, put on your socks and resolve the power crisis. That’s the way to do it. You have installed only 2.5 megawatts of solar power in six years of your administration. We throw a challenge to anybody with better contrary evidence to come forward to demonstrate the NDC’s record”.
