STC yet to increase fares

The State Transport Company (STC) is planning to increase its transport fares to some routes in the country due to the increment in fuel prices, which have occasioned corresponding increment in transport fares across the country.

The STC says the increment will only affect long distance commuters as fares for short journeys would be maintained.

The state transporter cited that persons travelling from Accra to Akyem Oda who used to pay GH¢16 will now pay GH¢17, for instance.

The Head of the Traffic Unit at the STC, William Adi, told Onua News reporter Nii Okai Tetteh that “we will soon increase some routes but for now, we are making the arrangements so in the next few weeks, our passengers should expect a marginal increment in our fares”.

Mr. Adi explained that “we are looking at what is going on in the market because we also use fuel to transport our passengers to and from their destinations”.
