Stars begin preparations for Egypt game

The Ghana Football Association says preparation to the final qualifying game for Russia 2018 has started.

The Black Stars will take on the Pharaohs of Egypt in the final group game for qualification to the FIFA World Cup.

Having sealed a place in Russia already, Egypt have left out their talisman, Mohammed Salah, who has been in top form for them since the start of the qualifying campaign but the Ghana Football Associations says it will still approach this game with all the seriousness it deserves.

Kwesi Appiah has called up 23 players including debutants Nana Ampomah and Nasiru Mohammed, Mubarak Wakaso and forward Majeed Waris.

The team is currently in Cape Coast training earnestly ahead of the game, under the watchful eye of coach Kwesi Appiah and his assistants

Speaking on TV3’s Saturday morning show Warm up, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Saanie Daara says while there is no World Cup berth at stake for Ghana, there is still a lot to play for.

“We are approaching it with all the seriousness it deserves. You would say it is a dead rubber because we won’t be able to qualify for the World Cup but the preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 begins today.

“Lessons have been learnt. It delights us that the coach has also said that he is using this opportunity to select the right players to form a formidable team for us.”

Black Stars will take on Egypt on Sunday at the Cape Coast Stadium.
