Last Saturday’s contest in the ongoing #SharksQuiz featured Ashanti Region’s Anglican Senior High School and Central Region’s St. Augustine’s College. Both institutions have bragging rights in various areas of academics. The moment of validation had however come to determine which of the two can brag about being the real sharks. Both sides represent geographic areas with beautiful history fused into the Ghanaian story. But it wasn’t time to tell history, it was time for history to be made.
The bell tolled for the first part of the contest. Within a given time, either school was asked eight set of questions. Anglican SHS rightly picked three out of the eight to score 30 points whereas St. Augustine’s College run ahead with 70 points. In round two and the remaining rounds thereafter, precision and certainty were needed to stay relevant. One wouldn’t want to let away precious points by giving wrong answers.
The contenders played each other, making trajectory moves to keep good standing. They locked heads and attempted their questions intelligently but at the end of the round, the Anglicans had leaped 35 points ahead of the Catholics’ 15. It was not a fretting moment for the coastal contingents as they were still in the lead. However, there were two more rounds to go and those were enough grounds to fall back if they did not stand well.
In the round of application, the science and maths history makers found solace. They brilliantly brought their expertise to bear and rated themselves above Anglican Senior High. The latter tried though but, the race was too heated than they could take. They fell 35 points back as the leaders made 65 for themselves. St. Augustine’s had at this point amassed a total 150 points against Anglican’s 95.
The last round came underway. Each contestant from the representing schools had the chance to make or break away as they took on each other individually in areas they excelled. Back and forth they played, striving to make more points for their various schools while losing some for answering wrongly. In the end, both schools drew with 15 points each. St. Augustine’s had swept their opponents off their feet with an outstanding 165 score against 110.
More is to be expected in upcoming events as predictions are made and anticipation raised for what will be happening in the next stage of the competition.
