Veteran football administrator Nana Fitzgerald Bakers Wood has rated the management of sports, especially football, under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government more than average.

Nana Fitz, as he is popularly known, said the NPP government came at a wrong time in sports, especially wth football, because the Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ exposé had taken a toll on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and its then President, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The football administrator was speaking in an interview with Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene hosted by Nana Yaw Opare.

They were discussing football and politics.

“I will rate the NPP admin 80% in sports because they came at the wrong time,” Nana Fitz said on Sunday, September 6.

“They came when Kwesi Nyantyakyi’s case was in force and if they had not managed it well, FIFA would have banned Ghana from football, so they did well,” he indicated.

He added that “it took them patience to put Ghana where we are now. [President] Akufo-Addo became a victim of wrong tactics in football because after Kwesi Nyantakyi’s issue, then Covid-19. So in football, he is genius”.

Nana Fitz said people are calling for the lifting of the ban on football imposed as a result of coronavirus but that, he insists, would spell doom for Ghana.

“If you asked our boys to go and play, how much are we paying them? Some are being paid GH¢150…if they were your siblings or children, would you allow them to go and play and bring the virus?”
