Rodney Appiah, son of former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah, has admitted that following in his father’s footsteps in the sport will be difficult.

Speaking to 3Sports, the Great Olympics midfielder acknowledged that his father achieved a lot in football, which would be difficult to replicate.

“I can’t do what he did because he is a very great man. He has done so much for the country,” Rodney said. “I just hope to do my best and make sure I show what I have.”

Despite the pressure of living up to his father’s legacy, Rodney revealed that Stephen Appiah has been instrumental in guiding him throughout his career.

“Obviously I get everything I have from my dad. He is my coach, my mentor, my manager, my everything. He shows me how to move on the field and how to be disciplined,” Rodney stated.

After recovering from a year-long injury, Rodney has returned to the first team of Great Olympics, where he hopes to make an impact under coach Annor Walker. Great Olympics are currently in third position with 15 points from nine games in the Ghana Premier League.

Rodney expressed his determination to put in his best effort and make his father proud.

“My biggest hope now is to put in my best and ensure I showcase my talent to fans,” he said.

With the support of his father and his own dedication, Rodney Appiah is determined to carve out his own path in the world of football.
