Semenyo insists he doesn’t need to start games to be useful

Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo has expressed his readiness to give his best for the Black Stars, irrespective of whether he is included in the starting line-up or not.

The 23-year-old player was instrumental in the Black Stars’ victory against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers held in Kumasi.

Semenyo scored the winning goal for the team in the 96th minute of the match, after being brought on by coach Chris Hughton.

The game was largely dominated by the Black Stars, but they struggled to make headway in attack until the introduction of Semenyo, who was determined to make an impact. The goal came when the ball bounced to him in the penalty area, and he made no mistake in smashing it into the net.

“If I am not selected I make sure when am on the bench and am coming on, I make sure am ready I have warmed up well and I make sure I’m effective for the team. I always want to be useful when am starting or on the bench as a goal scorer so am happy today,” Semenyo told the media after the game.

Semenyo’s performance was particularly impressive given that he was not part of the starting lineup, and his willingness to contribute to the team’s success is likely to endear him to fans and teammates alike.

Ghana will visit Angola for their next game on Monday as they target a place in the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

They are currently first in Group E with seven points followed by the Central African Republic and Angola who are both tied on four points.
