Ex-German international Gerald Asamoah has expressed disappointment in Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The Schalke 04 legend maintains there exists great talents in Ghana therefore stringent measures must be adopted to ensure such talents do not leave the shores of Ghana to play abroad. The 38-year-old became the first African-born player to debut for Die Mannschaft in 2001. In an era when the German national football team was dominated by whites, Gerald Asamoah denounced his Ghanaian citizenship mainly to make a difference and made a strong case for blacks. He scored on his debut and went on to play in the 2002 and 2006 World Cup finals. “I’ve never regretted ‘snubbing’ Ghana but the good deal is much has been gained and I owe every success to God,” he said. On the chances of Germany in Russia, Asamoah stressed that it would be very difficult grabbing the trophy, saying defending a trophy doesn’t come easy. Meanwhile, the Ghanaian-born former footballer was at the Osu Children’s Home to fete inmates. He presented items including toiletries, bags of rice, assorted beverages and undisclosed sum of money to the Home. With a foundation that foots bills of patients with heart challenges, Gerald Asamoah called on corporate Ghana to complement government’s efforts as it cannot do it alone. Gerald Asamoah is a two-time German Cup winner, one-time Bundes Liga winner and one-time German second-tier champion. By George Kwaning|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
