Regional Football Association (RFA) chairmen across Ghana have come together to throw their support behind Kurt Okraku’s bid for a second term as the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The heads of 10 regions, including Ashanti, Western, Volta, Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Greater Accra, Central, Brong Ahafo, and Eastern, have expressed unanimous endorsement for Okraku’s re-election.

This display of unity was showcased during an extraordinary event at the GFA Secretariat on Monday, where the 10 RFA chairmen gathered to obtain nomination forms for Okraku’s candidacy. Their collective action demonstrates a strong show of support for Okraku’s campaign to secure a second term at the helm of the GFA.

Okraku’s first term as GFA President has been marked by a mixture of accomplishments and challenges. Under his leadership, Ghana celebrated victory in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2021, and the Black Stars successfully qualified for the World Cup in Qatar. However, there have been concerns about the performance of various national teams in recent times, and the domestic league has faced difficulties in its quest for improvement.

Despite differing opinions on his candidacy, the RFA chairmen are firmly standing behind Okraku. As the GFA Elective Congress approaches, scheduled for September 27, Okraku is expected to face competition from former GFA Vice President George Afriyie. In the 2019 election, Okraku secured victory over Afriyie after a series of ballots, ultimately becoming the FA President.
